A Little Lesson on Overcoming – For the Parent of a Teased or Bullied Child

I can teach my kids that we have a choice always in how we react to others words. We can take these moments of hurt, and let them defeat us, or decide that we are going to use our frustration, anger or embarrassment to push us to be a better version of ourselves.

Soften Often

I was out watering in our front yard the other day, when a mini van full of little ones went by, with a lovely Mama in the chauffeur’s seat. What caught my eye with this particular van, was that there was a box of donuts riding on the roof. Clearly, in the scramble to get kids in car-seats, […]

Frogs, Farts, and Feral Children

wild wīld/ adjective 1. (of an animal or plant) living or growing in the natural environment; not domesticated or cultivated. Feral. OK.  That’s it!  You people who stand and watch us parents with the crooked pony tails, gum stuck to our butts, and wild things with sticky faces hanging out of our shopping carts…Move it […]

It’s Christmas Mama!

Ah, Christmas! ‘Tis the season of over-stimulation, too many presents, and too much food.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas. I love real Christmas. A spiritual holiday celebrating the birth of baby Jesus in a manger, which brings families together to enjoy each others’ company and the general love and good cheer that is […]

Lice and Fleas and Pins Worms, Oh My!

As a parent of three boys, I learn so many things that I likely wouldn’t have, had I chosen to not have children.  Some of the things I learn are wonderful.  Like how to get down on my stomach and really look, I mean REALLY LOOK at a how slow a slug moves across a […]

It’s Loud in Here

Wowza!  Where have I been?  I have to apologize for being on a bit hiatus from this blog. I have been bumping down the rolling, rollicking rapids of our crazy life.  Bouncing off doctor’s appointments, play dates, hockey practices, dog walks, work, boot camp (more on THAT soon – look for title: ABS where ARE […]

Tony Hawk, Pumpkin Lattes and Thrashin’

Fewf!  Survived the first couple of weeks of school.  Started a new job.  All three kids started another season of hockey. I’ve got BIG plans.  Right now anyway.  We’ll see how my BIG plans hold up through the “regular wear & tear” of life… But really, can I just say I LOVE Fall?  It’s not […]

The Scents of a Memory

Today is Monday.  Labour Day.  The kids go back to school tomorrow (which is good, because lately I have been feeling a little bit like “Miss Hannigan” from Annie). I wish we had gone to the beach today, because I can feel cooler days creeping in.  I can also smell Fall coming. The scent of rotting […]

Finally Learning 8 Years In…

Yesterday we went shopping for back-to-school supplies.  Thanks to the organization of our local office supply store, the shopping was super easy.  We all went together, husband included.  While the kids were checking out the video game/Ipad-mini display in the store, my husband and I split up and hit the lists.  I was always (98% […]
